Common Characteristics: Tall, straight and triangular with a pointed crown with needle like leaves. Bark is a coppery grey-brown colour when young but as tree matures (over 80 years) this turns a dark purple-brown colour. When young bark is rough with papery scales but appears smooth. Over time cracks and small plates appear.

Description: Fast growing Evergreen conifer which can grow up to 40m and live for 1000 years with shiny dark, green needles. Shoots are orange brown & hairless. The cones are the longest of any spruce and have bluntly to sharply triangular pointed scale tips. They are green or reddish, maturing brown.
